- Azure Event Hubs
- Stream Analytics
- Azure SQL
Over 200 IoT-enabled RFID antennas and an Azure streaming pipeline that processed over 1.7 million tag reads across a 3-day conference.
Goals
- On an opt-in basis, passively track the movement, content interaction and dwell times of approximately 2,500 attendees over a multi-day tech conference
- Combine data from active (direct interaction) and passive (proximity detection) tracking into an Attendee Journey, to understand traffic, content interest and customer and prospect engagement in real time
Solution
A tiered approach to data collection and aggregation.
- 200+ IoT-enabled UHF RFID antennas
- Local proxy servers to aggregate and cache antenna data, delivering the data to the cloud in real time as connectivity and bandwidth permitted
- Azure Event Hubs and Stream Analytics performing raw and windowed aggregate capture and analysis
- Area-, device- and content-specific Stream Analytics queries, based on antenna capabilities and interaction goals
- Azure SQL Server, Table and Queue Storage data sinks feeding dashboards, grid detail reports, and integration with data from active bar code scanning
Results
- Processed and analyzed over 1.7 million tag reads over 3 days
- Detected and reported over 50,000 distinct interactions
- Reported, in real time, areas of interest where both traffic and dwell time exceeded average
- Blended data from active and passive scanning into a unified reporting system
